Every year, parents lose a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth. It's an ordeal for which no one can be prepared and which is extremely difficult and complex for families to navigate.
Keen to provide the most appropriate support to these bereaved parents, the Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Fertility Unit of the Strasbourg University Hospitals has been offering support groups since 2003. Open to all bereaved parents in Alsace, they are held once or twice a quarter at the Schiltigheim CMCO, led by a midwife and a psychologist.
A collective work resulting from this discussion group
The desire to transcribe the valuable exchanges that have emerged from this support group since 2003 has led to the writing of a collective work. The idea is to share the thoughts of bereaved parents with other couples who may be affected by such an ordeal in the future. It is also the desire to convey the parents' expectations to professionals.
